As part of this seminar, students will participate in the International Football Arbitration Moot. Based on a fictional decision by a FIFA committee, students can demonstrate their legal argumentation skills in an appeal procedure before the Court of Arbitration for Sport. At first, the participants draft a written submission on behalf of the Applicant and then, based on a model appeal, a written submission for the Respondent. These written submissions must be drafted between February and April. This means that the majority of the work will be due within this time frame. The oral rounds will then take place in Platja d'Aro (Spain) in May 2025.

It is possible to submit a master's thesis that builds on the written submissions.

The Moot Court will be held in English (further information can be found at https://footballmoot.com/).

Learning outcomes

After completing the seminar, students will be able to

  • independently apply the methodology of advanced academic legal work to questions of sports law, in particular football law, in an international context,
  • independently analyse international football law issues on the basis of their acquired knowledge of case law and literature,
  • present the results in a presentation in a structured and target group-orientated manner,
  • analyse legal cases in teams,
