Contents

Globalization has made global sourcing a standard practice for many companies. Global sourcing is the practice of contracting out activities or functions to specialized suppliers around the world. This course focuses on the particular challenges of sourcing to, and from, global supply markets, especially emerging countries such as China. This course highlights the challenge of integrating business ethics and corporate social responsibility into procurement decisions when pursuing a global sourcing strategy.

Learning outcomes

After completing the course, students will:
•    be able to understand the basic concepts of global sourcing and responsible sourcing and apply them in cases and discussions. 
•    know how to implement different global sourcing strategies in different global markets
•    be able to utilize theoretical knowledge for the analysis of cases dealing with sourcing strategies in a global context
•    have developed critical thinking and the ability to solve global sourcing problems
•    be able to undertake tasks in teams

Attendance requirements

To enhance the learning experience, active participation in class activities is excepted. Therefore, attendance of at least 70% of classes is required to get a passing grade of the course. In case of illness/injury preventing a student from taking the final exam, a medical certificate is required as evidence. 

Teaching/learning method(s)

Students will acquire knowledge through a combination of class lectures, assignments, and case studies.

Assessment

Exam (individual) - 40%
Quizzes and assignments 60%
