This course presents a thorough introduction to economic growth theory and to selected aspects of macroeconomic policy. It deals with both exogenous and endogenous growth models, as well as with issues related to the accumulation of human capital and the conduct of fiscal and monetary policy.

Learning outcomes

After taking the course, students understand the most important modelling frameworks in economic growth theory, as well as with fiscal and monetary policy. Students are able to assess critically the modern academic theoretical and empirical literature dealing with long-run economic development, fiscal and monetary policy.

Attendance requirements

Attendance is compulsory. Two missed units are tolerated (communication not necessary). More than two missed units: only if the reason is serious and communicated to the lecturer before the unit starts.

Midterm Exam (40%)

Final Exam (40%)

Home Assignments (20%): tba

 

a positive grade requires:

  • in total more than 50 points
  • 40 points obtained in midterm and final combined
  • 8 points obtained in home assignments
