Contents

This course examines how society allocates scarce natural resources and manages waste disposal. It introduces students to empirical studies assessing the environmental impacts of waste on air, water, and soil. Furthermore, the course presents a selective set of numerical methods, empirical strategies, and game theory frameworks applicable to resource and environmental economics.

Learning outcomes

This course deepens students' knowledge in resource and environmental economics. In particular, this course aims to familiarize students with quantitative thinking and analysis in this field.

Attendance requirements

Topics in Microeconomics is a course with continuous assessment (PI), therefore attendance is necessary. Two lectures can be missed without excuse, absence in further lectures has to be excused/explained via email. 

 

Teaching/learning method(s)

This course provides numerical examples to make theoretical concepts operational and supplements them with published articles to illustrate connections to empirical research.

Assessment

Class participation (10%), presentations (20%), problem sets (30%), final exam (40%).
