Die Lehrveranstaltung findet als engage.eu Seminar statt in englischer Sprache statt. Das Thema lautet "Constitutional Identity". Teilnehmen kann nur, wer sich im Rahmen des internationalen Bewerbungsverfahren bis zum 31.01.2025 mit einem "abstract" und einem kurzen Lebenslauf an sekretariat.polzin@wu.ac.at bewirbt.

The engage.eu EU doctoral seminar is dedicated to the subject “European Constitutional Identity”. Constitutional Identity is a vague and appealing notion subject to a multitude of understandings. We therefore invite proposals on every possible aspect of European Constitutional Identity including its economic dimension. Possible subjects can cover classical areas like Art. 4 para. 2 TEU and Constitutional Identity, Art. 2 TEU and European Constitutional
Identity, but also other and new approaches, such as Democracy and European Constitutional Identity, European Constitutional Identity as Disputed Identity or the question whether we need a Constitutional European Constitutional Identity at all. We welcome any submission on this topic.
The Seminar will take place on 15 and 16 May 2025 in Vienna, Austria. Every presentation will be commented upon by one of the organisers or another specialist.
Interested applicants should send their CV (not more than 1 page) as well as a short abstract (not more than 500 words) to sekretariat.polzin@wu.ac.at until 31 January 2025.

Successful applicants will be informed by 15 February 2025. An introductory meeting will be held online in March 2025.
A written paper (no more than 22.000 characters (incl. footnotes and spaces)) has to be submitted on 1 May 2025. This requirement applies to participants taking part in the WU doctoral programme only. The other participants are also encouraged to submit a written paper in order to benefit the discussion and for the possible purpose to write a
publishable piece. The organisers are willing to support possible publications projects.
The maximum number of participants is 12. Participation is free of charge. There are no stipends, however, the organisers will support accepted candidates to obtain financial support, such as travel and accommodation expenses.

Nach Abschluss der LV sind die Teilnehmer in der Lage aufgrund der bei der Abhaltung eines Seminarvortrags und des Verfassens einer Seminararbeit erworbenen Kenntnisse und Fertigkeiten in verstärktem Maße wissenschaftliche Arbeiten auf Dissertationsniveau zu verfassen.

Außerdem wird die Fähigkeit gestärkt, eigenständig mündlich Argumente vorzutragen und diese in einer wissenschaftlichen Diskussion zu vertreten.

Es besteht Anwesenheitspflicht in den Einheiten des Seminars. Eine entschuldigte Abwesenheit ist ggf. für einzelne Einheiten möglich. 

Abfassung einer schriftlichen Seminararbeit und Präsentation dieser, mündliche Diskussion im Rahmen der Seminarsitzungen. Die Seminarsitzungen werden geblockt  am 14. und 15. Mai 2025 stattfinden.

Die Beurteilung erfolgt aufgrund folgender Aspekte:

• schriftliche Seminararbeit - 60%
• Referat - 30%
• mündliche Mitarbeit - 10%

Die Beurteilung beruht auf folgendem Schema: 0-49 Punkte: Nicht genügend, 50-62 Punkte: Genügend, 63-77 Punkte: Befriedigend, 78-89 Punkte: Gut, 90-100 Punkte: Sehr gut.

Nicht erlaubt ist der Einsatz KI-basierter Software zur Textgenerierung wie ChatGPT.

 Die schriftlichen Seminararbeiten müssen bis zum 01.05.2025 abgegeben werden.
