This course is about operational aspects of logistics and transportation in the context of global supply chains. Firstly, the course deals with trade environment, export/import regulations, customs management and trade facilitation. Furthermore, an introduction into trade management, including contracting issues, documentary paperwork, Incoterms® as well as means and modes of payment including the impact of digitization and digitalization is provided. Moreover, an insight into the highly relevant subjects of risk, security, and compliance management is given. The course will finish with the topic of transport management that includes organization of international good movements and multimodal transport operations.

• Explain how global trade impacts global supply chain operations as well as identify and discuss recent developments such as ongoing digitalization in the trade environment.
• Demonstrate knowledge in actual trade practice, including contracting, customs and documentary paperwork, means and modes of payment, transport management as well as risk, security and compliance management.
• Outline a plan for export/import movements of cargo in concordance with the present European Union legal environment and critically evaluate supply chain risk, security and compliance management issues therein.
• Identify and explain critical elements in the choice of transport mode including intermodal transport solutions.

Attendance of minimum 80% (or 5/6 sessions) is mandatory.

Lecture on WU Campus. Only if absolutely necessary this class would switch to full distance mode. Even in remote format, the sessions will take place within the announced time slots.
    

Individual Level (70%):
- Container Tracking Report (10%) based on completeness and quality of content
- Commodity Assessment Report (10%) based on completeness and quality of content
- Remote Take Home Exam (50%) in form of an integrated case study along with specific questions

Group Level (30%):
- Case Study Assessment, including submission of two brief management summaries (10% each) and one pre-recorded presentation (10%) on Tuesdays 23:55 CET on Learn@WU before class. Grading is based on completeness, quality of content, presentation and participation in peer-evaluation of other presentations.

Grading scale:
- Excellent (1): 90% - 100.0%
- Good (2): 80% - <90%
- Satisfactory (3): 70% - <80%
- Sufficient (4): 60.0% - <70%
- Fail (5): <60.0%

Prerequisite for passing the course: minimum performance of 40% in the Remote Take Home Exam.
