Entering international markets requires many crucial decisions. Firms must select attractive markets, find ways to serve these markets, assess local firms as candidates for acquisition or partnerships, and choose the proper moment for market entry. This course covers all of these questions and provides answers from both theoretical and practical viewpoints.

Learning outcomes

Students study theories, concepts, and methods required to enter international markets and understand their relevance for practical implementation.

Attendance requirements

As this is a highly interactive class, it is important that you are well prepared and present for all sessions! You may miss one session, but be aware that class participation makes up a considerable stake of your final grade and, therefore, an absence will affect your grading. If you miss more than one session, you will be deregistered from the course.

Teaching/learning method(s)

The course comprises lecture units, short student presentations, and case studies.

Assessment

Your grade is composed by 60% individual assessment (i.e. 20% active class participation/short student presentation and 40% final exam) and by 40% group grading (i.e. case study analysis and presentation: 30% and review of another group's presentation: 10%). Note: It is necessary to pass each of the grading elements to pass the course as a whole.

Final grading

≥ 90%...1

≥ 80%...2

≥ 70%...3

< 60%...5
