Contents

The lecture tackles topics in regulation of network industries, e.g. electricity, gas, water, rail as well as telecommunication. Traditional question are how to regulate industries with natural monopoly characteristics? How should regulatory intervention look like in segments of industries, in which competition seems possible and beneficial?

Learning outcomes

The aim is to present the main models and methods of regulatory economics. The students will be able to apply the latest theoretical and empirical findings to specific problems of regulation. The main empirical evidence will be presented.

Attendance requirements

Attendance is mandatory, max. 2 absences without valid excuse

Teaching/learning method(s)

Lecture with discussion of problem sets

Assessment

Test 60% (min 40% at test), work in class (max 20%), presentation of problem set 20%
